Travel is a great approach to experience different cultures and to learn from people who think in a different way. Being able to travel to different continents brings me opportunities to understand the world more comprehensively and inspire more creative designs.

ASIA

Experience:

I took the picture when I was in a regional park close to Taipei. The tidal wave was washing to the stones.

Influence:

The access to ocean view is a great attraction to visitors.

Experience:

This was a window of a traditional residence in Taipei. The shape of the window was an interesting frame to the interior.

Influence:

Less is more. White space helps the viewer focus on the interior of the architecture.

Experience:

The stairs were visually and physically connected from the bottom to the top. A lot of tourists were taking pictures there.

Influence:

Create a photogenic site that visitors can take pictures of and post on social media.

Experience:

A night view under the umbrella structure in Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Influence:

Huge structures create a great impression on visitors.

Experience:

A red light was projected on the Marina Bay Sands hotel during Singapore National Day.

Influence:

Different colors can change the feelings in an environment.

Experience:

A day view of Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

Influence:

A large green space is a treasure in an urban environment. It also attracts local residents and visitors.

Experience:

A large water feature in the Jewel, a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex connecting two terminals in Changi Airport in Singapore.

Influence:

It is powerful to design interior with a variety of vegetations. The water feature is one of the key elements in this design.

Experience:

A photo taken on the observation floor in the second highest building in Shanghai.

Experience:

The picture included the three highest buildings in Shanghai.

Experience:

A contrast between a person and the China Art Museum in Shanghai.

Influence:

A formal setting can be created by a huge structure and absent planting design.

Influence:

People enjoy viewing a city from a high point.

Architecture serves as a symbol and identity in cities.

A historical temple was built two thousand ago surrounded by sand mountains.

Influence:

To appreciate a design in a comprehensive way, a designer can step back and see it.

AUSTRALIA

Australia

Experience:

A central axis in the city of Canberra, Australia.

Influence:

A large green space with a descending central corridor is an effective focal point to lead audiences’ sight view.

Experience:

A natural black and white texture on stones by the coast in Sydney, Australia.

Influence:

Observing patterns surrounded inspires more ideas for the design.

Experience:

An art installation created with dotted pumpkin models in a closed space.

Influence:

Using glass in any space magnifies the space drastically.

Experience:

People enjoyed using the beach under the cliffs.

Influence:

Providing people access to the ocean leads to a successful gather space.

SOUTH AMERICA

South America

Experience:

The picture showed the face murals in Rio de Janeiro.

Influence:

A public art installation is a great element to shape a sense of place.

Experience:

The picture displayed the Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, which was taken on top of the Sugarloaf Mountain.

Influence:

A public area that offers enjoyable bay view is a good asset in a city.

Experience:

The picture demonstrated the planting design in the Roberto Burle Marx Residence.

Influence:

A carefully designed planting area creates an attraction to visitors.

NORTH AMERICA

North America

Experience:

This was the structure of the Monorail station in Seattle.

Influence:

An interesting contrast of colors and textures.

Experience:

A bird landed on the handrail in Staten Island.

Influence:

Design a place not only for people and also for wildlife.

Experience:

The shadow created a pattern on the surface of the wood bench.

Influence:

The variety of shadows adds more flavor to design.

A riverfront park with an exceptional night view is an attraction to tourists.
